Discourse Analysis of Humor After Traumatic Brain Injury

This study examined how nine individuals with cognitive communication difficulties after moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) use humuor in social interactions. Analysis showed that participants effectively used humour in various ways, such as gaining attention, asserting authority, sharing information, and demonstrating affiliation, highlighting it as a social and linguistic strength. These findings suggest that analysing humour can inform speech-language therapy by identifying communication strengths and guiding clinical interventions.
