Narrative Discourse Intervention After Traumatic Brain Injury: A systematic review of the literature

This systematic review examined interventions targeting narrative discourse in adults with traumatic brain injury (TBI), identifying six relevant studies, including three single-case and three case-series designs. Interventions focused on metacognitive and metalinguistic strategies to improve understanding and production of narrative structure, with reported gains in treated narratives but mixed evidence for generalization and maintenance. The review highlights the need for contextualized, personally relevant materials in interventions and provides guidance for future research and clinical practice in narrative discourse rehabilitation after TBI.
