Social Media and People With Traumatic Brain Injury: A Metasynthesis of Research Informing a Framework for Rehabilitation Clinical Practice, Policy, and Training

This study explored the experiences of people with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and rehabilitation professionals in using social media through a qualitative metasynthesis of literature, social media data, interviews, focus groups, and guidance reviews. Findings showed that people with TBI often use trial-and-error to engage with social media, gaining a sense of connection and mastery, while professionals’ concerns about risks can sometimes limit their use. The study highlights the importance of proactive training and supportive networks to help people with TBI achieve social media goals, informing an evidence-based protocol for clinical practice and future research.
