Our current projects include:

Conversation skills training for people with acquired brain injury

convers-ABI-lity is a 10 week program for people with ABI and their communication partners (family, friends and support workers) to develop skills for most conversations together. The program involves self-guided activities and videocall sessions with a speech pathologist.

Participate in training to improve social media skills after brain injury

We are looking for people who have an acquired brain injury who are interested in learning more about using social media after their injury.

We are asking people to:

  • complete an online social media training course (2 hours), and
  • practice their social media skills in a closed Facebook group (for 8 weeks).

Try out some Virtual Reality apps & tell us what you think: Virtual Reality in TBI Rehabilitation

We’re looking for people with traumatic brain injury and speech pathologists in Sydney to trial and provide feedback about using virtual reality (VR) for assessing conversation skills. Participating in this study involves:

  • Completing some communication assessments via Zoom (participants with TBI only)
  • Testing VR apps with the research team at The University of Sydney Camperdown campus
  • Providing feedback about the VR apps and tasks.

Have you had a traumatic brain injury?
Were you single after your injury?
Are you willing to take part in a Microsoft Teams interview about your experiences of dating?

The purpose of this study is to explore a person’s experiences of dating after a brain injury. We want to learn about:
• Why you want to date?
• How do you find a date?
• How do you know if a date is going well?

Dr Nicholas Behn (City University London) and Professor Jacinta Douglas (La Trobe University) are doing a research study to find out more about how people with a brain injury experience dating.

Survey for educators of speech pathology students: TBI Bank Grand Rounds

We are looking for educators who teach in the field of communication disorders and traumatic brain injury to participate in a short online survey. We want to evaluate current use of TBIBank Grand Rounds by educators and obtain recommendations on how it could be enhanced for future use.
